A calmer approach to tank care

Small, consistent care tasks help you spot problems early and keep your aquarium looking its best.

Observe before you clean

Check fish behaviour, water temperature and equipment operation. Look for unusual breathing, damaged leaves or changes in water appearance. Use water tests to investigate concerns.

Change water with care

Plan partial water changes around test results, stocking and your setup. Treat replacement tap water appropriately and avoid sudden changes in temperature or chemistry. Never use household cleaning chemicals in the tank.

Protect the biological filter

Follow the filter manual and avoid cleaning every biological surface at the same time. Rinse reusable biological media gently in removed aquarium water when necessary.

Trim and tidy

Remove dead plant material, clean viewing glass with aquarium-safe tools and check that intakes remain clear. Switch off equipment as directed by the manufacturer before maintenance.
